Resident and Building Safety: structure and responsibilities 

Resident and Building Safety helps make sure Camden council homes are safe and meet legal requirements. We manage safety and compliance activities across the property portfolio, including higher-risk buildings. 

We provide a range of services to residents including: 

  • fire safety advice and fire risk assessments 
  • building safety assessments and inspections  
  • high rise building safety cases  
  • asbestos management and compliance 
  • health and safety compliance and systems 
  • resident safety engagement and governance 

What we do 

Building safety 

Our work includes: 

  • managing building safety assessments across council-owned homes 
  • supporting implementation of building safety regulations 
  • coordinating building safety projects, information and reporting 
  • working with partners to manage higher-risk buildings 
  • Engaging with residents on matters relating to building safety  

Fire safety 

Our work includes: 

  • managing fire safety advice and activity across council housing 
  • managing programme of fire risk assessments and follow-up actions 
  • coordinating actions to reduce fire safety risks 
  • monitoring compliance with fire safety standards 
  • liaison and partnership work with London Fire Brigade  
  • Delivery of Residential PEEPs  

Asbestos compliance 

Our work includes: 

  • managing asbestos surveys and compliance activity 
  • coordinating asbestos information and follow-up actions 
  • monitoring safety standards across housing assets 
  • managing asbestos removal works  

Health and safety 

Our work includes: 

  • managing health and safety compliance activity 
  • maintaining health and safety systems and reporting 
  • supporting services to meet regulatory requirements 
  • inspecting work of contractors to ensure safety standards on site 

Resident safety engagement and governance 

Our work includes: 

  • supporting resident engagement on safety matters 
  • providing information and updates on building safety 
  • coordinating governance and assurance activity linked to safety 
  • coordinating resident engagement activities such as fire safety panel or action days
