Rent a shed on a housing estate
If you need extra storage, you can apply to rent a shed on a housing estate.
Do not store anything that may catch fire. This includes:
- petrol, diesel or car batteries
- dangerous chemicals
- gas canisters
- oil-based paints, paint thinners or turpentine
- charcoal or briquettes
- fireworks or flares
Check if you’re eligible
If the shed area is key or fob protected, only residents from that block can apply.
If you’re a council tenant, you cannot rent a shed if you have rent arrears.
If you're a leaseholder, you cannot rent a shed if you have service charge arrears.
How we prioritise
There are a limited number of sheds and we prioritise applications in this order:
- Blue Badge holders living on the estate
- Tenants and leaseholders living on the estate
- Blue Badge holders on neighbouring estates
- Tenants and leaseholders on neighbouring estates
- Council staff, business and non-Camden residents
Timescales for allocating a shed
We're auditing our sheds due to high demand. Unfortunately, we're unable to say how long it will take to allocate a shed. This depends on:
- your priority status
- how many people are on the waiting list
- how many sheds are available in your preferred area
We're processing applications as quickly as we can.
Cost of renting a shed
A shed costs £3 per week. If you’re a tenant, this is paid every Monday with your rent.
How to apply
To apply for a shed you need to:
- select the view available sheds button - available sheds will be shown as green dots on a map
- select the shed that you’d like to rent and select ‘apply here’ to complete the application form
You can still complete an application form if your chosen shed shows as a grey area on the map. We'll add you to the waiting list.
What happens next
We’ll review your application and check if the shed is still available. If it is, we’ll email and ask you to provide your:
- proof of address
- Blue Badge (if relevant)
If no sheds are available
We’ll add your name to a waiting list and contact you when a shed becomes available.
You can also rent a garage.
If you do not pay your rent
You must keep your payments up to date.
If you owe rent, you must contact the Housing Income team. They're here to help. Your rent statement includes the details of your Income Officer, or you can call 020 7974 4444.
If you do not pay what you owe, we’ll give you written notice. You’ll need to reapply for a shed after clearing your debt.

If you want to give up your shed
Complete the form if you want to give up your shed. You must give us at least 7 days' notice.
Clearing your belongings
You must empty your shed before you return it to us. You can get rid of unwanted items by:
- recycling at the Regis Road recycling centre
- taking items to local charity shops
- arranging for a large item collection
We may charge you if we need to clear your belongings.
Repairing your shed
Your shed must be in good condition when you return it to us. If your shed needs repairing, report the repair issue online.
Returning your keys
Keys must be returned to the estate parking team by post or in person at our 5 Pancras Square office. This must be done by midday on Monday after giving notice to avoid further rent charges.
If you're moving home as well, all keys and fobs can be returned to your Neighbourhood Housing Officer or our reception. You’ll be asked to complete a notice of vacation form.
