Refer someone for financial support

If you’re a professional working with someone who needs financial support, we have 2 programmes you can refer them to: 

Who can make a referral 

You can make a referral if you’re a Welfare Rights Adviser.

Who you can refer 

You can refer someone for support if they:  

  • have lived in Camden for at least 6 weeks 

  • are the main tenant, or council tax account holder or registered partner 

  • are over 16 years old and living independently, or 18 years old and over  

  • are living in severe financial hardship 

  • have not reached the maximum number of awards for the period (2 x COL Fund and 2 x HSF grants per financial year) 

How to make a referral 

Before you make a referral

To submit a referral, you’ll need to provide the following information about the person you’re referring: 

  • an identification number, such as National Insurance or benefits claim reference, if you can 

  • council tax reference number, if you can 

  • details about their household 

  • any benefits they receive 

  • any priority debts they have 

  • bank statements covering the last month for each bank account they or their partner have, in a PDF format and showing all transactions 

  • bank details, if you’re requesting a one-off payment into their bank account 

  • email address, if you’re requesting a voucher 

Do not attach blank documents or we will not be able to process your referral. Any missing or incomplete information will slow down our review process. 

Both support funds use the same referral form.

If you feel there are exceptional circumstances that warrant a COL payment alongside an HSF payment, email your justification to [email protected], with the subject line ‘Internal grant application’, including the resident’s name. 

What happens next

We’ll review your referral, and we aim to be in touch with our decision within 10 working days.
