Keeping your home cool in hot weather

Hot weather can make homes uncomfortable and affect some people’s health.

What you can do

You can take simple steps to keep your home cool:

  • close windows, curtains or blinds in rooms with direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day
  • open windows when it is cooler outside, such as early morning or later in the evening, if it is safe
  • keep trickle vents open – do not block vents or extractor fans
  • turn off lights, appliances and heating when you do not need them
