Housing allocation scheme 2018
The housing allocation scheme explains who can apply for social housing and how we assess these applications.
There is a high demand for affordable housing in Camden. Rent is high and over 8000 households are on our social housing register. Last year we let 643 properties of which 60% were studio or 1-bedroom.
Unfortunately, most applicants will not receive a social housing offer.
Before you apply to join the housing register, explore your housing options.
Meeting our housing commitments
The housing allocation scheme ensures that we:
- prioritise those who qualify and are in the greatest need
- are fair and transparent
- help applicants make realistic housing decisions
- follow the law and our key priorities
- promote strong, mixed, and sustainable communities
- manage our housing stock well
- support our work to reduce child poverty

Updates to housing allocations
We’ve recently made some changes to how housing applications are assessed. These updates are now live and aim to provide a fairer and more supportive service.
Medical assessments
Medical assessments can now take up to 28 working days to complete (previously 21 days). During this time, you won’t be able to bid for properties.
Homeless priority for domestic abuse (group A)
If you are eligible under the domestic abuse category and are owed a housing duty, you will now automatically receive 75 priority points.
Domestic abuse priority (group D)
Previously, priority points for domestic violence were removed after 6 months. This is no longer the case. Points will now stay in place unless your situation changes and is reviewed.
If you think any of these changes may affect your application or you need support, contact the Accommodation Placement team on 020 7974 4444.
