Complain about a councillor

Councillors are elected representatives for the borough. They’re elected every 4 years and serve a 4-year term. The Council has agreed to have a Code of Conduct for Councillors, which they must follow. This tells them the behaviour that’s expected of them by the Council and it explains what could happen if they do not follow it or fail to meet the standards it sets for them.

If you think a councillor has not acted as they’re expected to and have broken the code, you can make a complaint about them.

What you can make a complaint about

You can make a complaint if the councillor has broken the Code of Conduct, such as:

  • misusing council resources
  • insulting, bullying or harassing someone
  • using their position to unfairly benefit themselves or their friends or family
