Our caretaking team helps to keep housing estates and street properties clean and safe.
If your block is not being cleaned
If your block is not being cleaned, contact the caretaker manager. You can find their name and contact details on the block schedule on the noticeboard.

Cleaning tasks
Daily tasks, Monday to Friday, include:
- sweeping and washing the refuse and recycling areas
- spot cleaning stairs and landings
- cleaning lifts and control buttons
- litter picking around the estate or block
- cleaning the entrance and lobby
- removing signs of graffiti and antisocial behaviour where possible
- health and safety inspections of each floor and landing, including fire safety
- investigating and removing fly-tipping
Weekly tasks include:
- cleaning and mopping each floor
- cleaning lift outer doors and frames
- sweeping and washing the stairs, including stairwell landings
- cleaning window ledges
- cleaning handrails
- cleaning entrance doors and glass
- cleaning light diffusers as required
- inspecting and testing communal lighting
- sweeping the block’s external hard surfaces
- wall washing as required
Additional duties include:
- attending out-of-hours emergencies
- reporting unauthorised occupants, communal repairs, missed refuse collections, and antisocial behaviour
- carrying out additional communal activities such as deep cleaning and floor polishing
- snow clearing and gritting
- providing access for emergency services
